Events

Youth events happen throughout the year and are planned with

the youth under the direction of the Program Coordinator and/or

Volunteers. Youth are provided with opportunities to take a

leadership role in planning and organization events for their peers

and for the community. We aim to connect our youth with

opportunities to participate in projects that take place in Abbotsford

as well as projects that are in collaboration with surrounding

community organizations.

Facebook page!

The Fraser Valley Youth Society also organizes and participates

in various community events throughout the year.

We organize the annual Walk Away From Homophobia in

Abbotsford and participate in the Vancouver Pride Parade each

year. In 2001, we also participated for the first time in the Canada

Day Parade in Abbotsford.

4th Annual Walk Away from Homophobia

WAFH Poster

The Fraser Valley Youth Society is hosting its 4th annual Walk Away from Homophobia. The event is aimed at creating awareness, building a strong and inclusive LBGTQ community and eliminating homophobia and heterosexism.

Our plan is to march as usual, however, we will not all take the same route to 5 corners. We were given the idea to take different paths and then gather together at the 5 corners. We are doing this to honour our allies, who gave us the idea, and also to remember that everyone takes a different path through life but we can all stand together for a common goal.

This year, our youth members have taken a role in planning and organizing the event. Glitterfest is our theme so if you feel up for it, you are welcome to come out and shine to support the LGBTQ and allied community of the Fraser Valley.

Teams of youth will be leading 3 separate walking routes to the 5 corners, where we will stand and show pride in all the colours of the rainbow.

After returning to the drop-in, we will have a free BBQ for all of our members, volunteers and community supporters.
